We work with Travellers to build a just, inclusive and welcoming community in and through faith

She’s there and you know she is there. As soon as you go from outside and through the gates, you have that feeling.
Whenever Travellers go to Lourdes, they go with many intentions. Some are their own, but many are the intentions of members of their own family and friends. These intentions are offered for healing and relief of sickness (especially for sick children), worry, suffering, bereavement, many other things.  These petitions are left in the grotto of Our Lady. Many people return to Lourdes in thanksgiving for prayers answered and favours granted, these are pilgrimages of joy.

Our Lady is very special for Travellers. We look on her as our mother, we turn to her in all our needs. Mothers turn to her especially for like them she has the heart of a Mother and they know she knows the worry of a mother. We know our Lady is very special to Jesus and there is very little he would not do for her.

The experience of being in Lourdes for many has to do with receiving the blessing of peace. When people go there, many return strengthened, refreshed and rested, feeling that they have been blessed by God and that their prayers have been heard in this holy place. To bath in the waters of Lourdes is very important and many Travellers will make it their business to go three times while they are there. For many Travellers; although they participate with great fervour in the ceremonies, would perceive a pilgrimage to Lourdes to be as good as a holiday.

Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads and I will give you rest.

(Matt. 11:28)
