Tragedy at Carrickmines

The Parish of the Travelling People extend their deepest sympathies to the Connors, Lynch and Gilbert families on their tragic loss of their loved one in the horrific fire in Carrickmines on Saturday morning, October 10th.

CarrickminesVigilOur prayers and thoughts are with the families and all those who have been affected by this terrible tragedy. Fr Derek Farrell, Parish of the Travelling People, said the enormous scale of the tragedy has spread shockwaves across the whole country. "The extended family, the Traveller community, which is very close-knit, and the wider community is feeling the enormity of this and the pain of it."

The Parish of the Travelling People have opened a book of condolences in St Peter's Church, Phibsborough, which can be signed by anyone who wants to leave messages of support to the families of the victims.

Southside Traveller Action Group, in partnership with the Parish of the Travelling People, are holding a Candlelight vigil at 7.30pm tonight (Wed, Oct 14th) outside the Site in Carrickmines, where the tragedy happened, and invite anyone who wish to show their support for the families affected by the fire last Saturday.

Garda will be assisting traffic in the area and supporting the coordination of the vigil on Glenamuck Road.
